I'm a preschool teacher and CONSTANTLY getting sick :( Right now i'm trying to fight a horrible cold and i'm trying to lessen it for the holidays. I know I need antibiotics because the mucus is green, but I cannot get to the doctor because of the holidays. We do keep things very clean at the preschool, but it does not seem to help. Any alternatives for antibiotics in the meantime? Or any suggestions?

Here are some ideas to heal the issue.
1. To improve breathing and fight infections, inhale steamed vapors of the essential oils of camphor, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, pine, or tea tree.
2. Have yourself screened for food allergies and sensitivities, and avoid eating those foods to which you test positive.
3. Determine if you have acute (lasts 2-8 weeks) or chronic sinusitis. Untreated chronic cases can result in increased degeneration of the mucus membrane.
4. Avoid all sugar, wheat and soy products, soft drinks, foods containing artificial ingredients, and commercially processed foods. Reduce your intake of caffeine products, commercial dairy products, red meat, and refined carbohydrates.
5. Drink eight ounces of pure, filtered water every two hours; add freshly-squeezed lemon juice and a dash of cayenne pepper. Enjoy freshly-made, organic vegetable juices during the day, as well as hot broths and soups.
6. Eat an organic, whole foods diet, with plenty of fresh, raw organic fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, organic, free-range meats and poultry, and wild-caught fish. Use garlic, cayenne pepper, chili peppers, horseradish, and onion liberally.
7. Useful herbs for sinusitis include Echinacea, elder flowers, eyebright, goldenrod, goldenseal, stinging nettle, wild indigo, and yarrow.
8. Helpful homeopathic remedies include Arsenicum album, Kalium bichromium, Mercurius iodatus, Nux vomica, Silicea, and Euphorbium compositum.
9. Do saltwater nasal irrigation to clear nasal passages. Hot foot baths and alternating hot and cold compresses over the sinuses help symptoms. If you smoke, seek help to stop. Avoid exposure to secondhand smoke and excessively cold or dry air.
10. Invest in a negative ion generator, a humidifier, and add air-filtering plants to your home and work. Keep your place well ventilated.
11. Useful nutrients include vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, beta carotene, calcium, chromium picolinate, magnesium, selenium, and zinc. Take flaxseed oil and omega-3 oils, as well as a multivitamin/multimineral complex supplement.
12. Do 30 minutes of aerobic exercise three to five times a week. Also include stretching and strength-conditioning exercises, and an easy relaxation technique spending five minutes a few times a day sitting comfortably with your eyes closed, breathing slowly and deeply through the nose, allowing the belly to rise and fall.

Does anyone know of natural cures, or aids for sinus congestion, and pressure? I feel miserable!
One day to new year and you feeling miserable? We cant have that.
therbal and natural remedies.
Below are a few to consider:
a) Ground Ivy: The leaves of this sinus infection herb can dry out the bronchi and sinuses when used in an infusion or tincture.
b) Goldenseal: The root of the goldenseal plant is a powerful astringent and coolant, which comes in a powder capsule form. Take one or two 200 mg capsules or create a tincture, where 1 ml is taken for three times per day.
c) Bayberry: Bayberry bark is known to stimulate the circulatory system and also possesses warming properties that helps with nasal discharge, pain, and sinus tenderness. The powder can be used as snuff, or used to create a tincture. Add 5ml of tincture to 20ml of emulsifying ointment to make a substance that can be used for sinus massage.
d) Long Pepper: It is the fruit of this herb that is useful in treating sinus headaches and infection brought on by allergies. You may use the fruit to create a milk infusion or choose the capsule form (1-2 200mg powder capsule per dose).
e) Colloidal Silver: Sinus infections respond to this safe and non-toxic approach that has been known to treat more than 500 illnesses caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
f) Apple Cider Vinegar: An apple cider vinegar sinus infection treatment can be used to thin out mucous. You should add the vinegar to large glasses of water and drink throughout the day.
g) Oregano: The wild oil of oregano can be used as an effective sinus infection treatment that possesses powerful anti-bacterial properties. The capsule form is considered best when taking two every 3-4 hours
h) Do saltwater nasal irrigation to clear nasal passages. Hot foot baths and alternating hot and cold compresses over the sinuses help symptoms. If you smoke, seek help to stop. Avoid exposure to secondhand smoke and excessively cold or dry air.

I have been to the doctor and they gave me a spray starts with an F can't remember the name, but it doesn't seem to be working and the sinus infection feels to be getting worse. This has been lingering for a while and I am so tired of it. Is the antibiotic necessary or is there some kind of natural remedy for it. I would like to get rid of this by the end of the week.
Things I would use (in no particular order) - but there are many more options hopefully others will share:
Neti pot
Saline nasal spray - 1/4 tsp sea salt, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 8 oz warm water.
You can add 10 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract to the nasal spray. It will definitely make the taste worse, but GSE is a natural antibacterial, antifungal, and will help. You could even gargle and swallow some GSE diluted 10 drops to 6 oz of water. It will address the infection if it is spread to the throat and help address the sinuses still too.
Mullein - get fresh mullein or tea bags. Put in a pot with water and boil for a few minutes. Shut the heat source off and breathe in the steam.

I've been taking an antibiotic for a sinus infection, and though I am feeling better, the symptoms are still bugging me. I want to try something else to add to it.
A warm salt-water solution poured through the nose provides great relief in sinusitis. A ceramic pot (a plastic one may also be used, it is far easier to carry) known as a “neti lota”, makes this procedure very easy. Fill the pot with warm water and add enough salt so the solution tastes like tears. Stand over a sink and tilt your head far to one side so that your ear is parallel to the floor, and pour the solution into the upper nostril, allowing it to drain through the lower nostril. You have to breathe through your mouth while doing this. Gently blow your nose using your gut muscles without applying pressure on your lungs as this may throw the mucus along with the bacteria back into your throat and the Eustachian tubes. Repeat on the other side. This procedure may be performed two or three times a day. It is a part of the yogic therapy and is extremely beneficial in sinusitis.
Yoga (neti pot use is actually a part of it) is extremely beneficial, especially when you use herbs along with it.
Usually, your sinusitis will require the use of antibiotics (I have myself taken tons of them) to get rid of bacteria and other organisms. Natural and holistic treatments have also been used for centuries to reduce the symptoms of sinusitis. Very often, conventional medications have harsh side effects and using more natural alternatives like herbal and homeopathic remedies are much safer and gentler for the body.
Herbal remedies are there to alleviate the symptoms by reducing inflammation and, if you still take prescription medications, also help them in curing the infection. Of course, some of them like Echinacea, help tremendously in not only giving a fillip to your immune system but also help prevent colds and shorten the duration of your cold or flu.
A highly effective herb is Quercitin which contains anti-oxidants and helps to promote healthy circulation and boosts immunity. Another carefully selected herb is Euphrasia officinalis (Eyebright) which is beneficial for good eye health. In addition, homeopathic ingredients such as Arsen alb, Nat. mur. and Kali mur. help to maintain the skin and nervous system as well as liver health.

Cold and flu season can take a toll on business and school attendance as well as productivity. Cold and flu medicine can leave people feeling dizzy or sleepy, which can interfere with work. Refusing any treatment for flu or symptoms can prevent a worker or student from paying attention to anything other than the misery of the symptoms being experienced. Natural cold and flu remedies, however, can treat the stuffy/runny nose that causes a cold's sore throat, as well as reducing the pain in the throat itself.
Natural Cold and Flu MedicineNatural cold and flu medicine comes in many varieties. The simplest and most natural remedy for the common cold is a combination of fluids and rest, since the body will fight off the cold germs in its own time. The symptoms of colds and mild flu infections, however, can be treated by different types of natural remedies.
