natural remedies for eye infection?

*No vet recommendations please, not an option*

I was wondering if anyone knew of alternative remedies for eye infections.
It's not on the inside.
she must have scraped it on something and it's scabbing already. It's right by the corner of her eye and I don't want it to get infected. It looks like it's healing pretty good but I don't want to put neosporin on it just in case it gets in her eyes.

Could it be possible that her eye lid can turn pink if there was an injury? I doubt it's pink eye but I am sending a pic to my friends aunt next week to rule it out.

Vet is not an option for many personal reasons.
thank you.

His eyes are droopy(naturally) but the
damselchum, if you are not going to give PRODUCTIVE feedback then don't bother replying!

I am well aware of abuse and laws and my dogs are probably well taken care of then most human children.

I never said it was for personal beliefs, I said personal reasons.

It is a scratch..not a puss filled infection so get over yourself.

leave it alone then.

Natural remedy for eye infection?

I have a relentless eye infection and I am out of perscription drops. Does anyone know of a simple eye solution that will clear the infection? No insurance, can't afford another doctor's visit. Please cite sources if at all possible.

Either warm or cold compresses, depending on which feel better, is a good idea. Saltwater or rosewater may help. When I was a kid we used boric acid solution (boil 1 quart of water and add 1 tablespoon boric acid). Boric acid should be available at the drug store. There are some over-the-counter products you can try:
Ointments, such as Stye.
Solutions, such as Bausch and Lomb Eye Wash and Collyrium Eye Wash.
Medicated pads, such as Ocusoft Lid Scrub and Stygiene.

Herbal remedies

Compress: Use five drops of tincture in ¼ cup water or steep 1 tsp. herb in 1 cup hot water for 5 to 10 minutes and strain. Soak cloth or gauze in solution and apply to the eyes for 10 minutes, three to four times a day.

Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis): helps fight infection and dry up excess fluid, specific for eyes
Chamomile (Matricaria recutita): helps fight infection
Fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare): helps fight infection
Marigold (Calendula officinalis): soothes irritation
Plantain (Plantago lanceolata, P. major): astringent and soothing. The fresh leaves are the most effective plant part.
Flaxseed (Linum usitat issimum): as a soothing poultice made with 1 oz. of bruised flaxseed steeped for 15 minutes in 4 oz. of water, wrapped in cheesecloth, then applied directly to the affected eye.
Grated fresh potato has astringent (drying and disinfecting) properties. Wrap in cheesecloth and apply.
Use above herbs singly or in combination: Mix equal parts together then steep 1 tsp. herb in 1 cup of hot water to make a tea. Cool before administering to the eye.

Eyewash: goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) and boric acid: 10 drops of goldenseal tincture with 1 tsp. of boric acid in 1 cup of water.

You should wash your hands and anything else that comes into contact with your face or eyes before and after. touching yourself. Use clean tissues, towels, handkerchiefs, etc.

Good luck, I hope you feel better.

Is there a natural remedy I can use to ease a cat's eye infection?

My friend recently got a Russian Blue kitten. Poor thing developed an eye infection and my friend would prefer a natural treatment she can use at home to heal the infection if possible. Thanks!

If the infection is caused by the herpes virus (half of them usually are, the other half are from calci viruses) you can home treat that with 250 mg of lysine powdered (crushed the pill with a spoon) and sprinkled over their food for 5-7 days. Usually by day 3 there's a significant improvement and the eyes are good after 7 days.

If you treat for the herpes virus and see no improvement, it's a good bet the cat has a calci virus or a different kind. Lysine works wonderfully for the herpes but won't touch the others.

If the eyes are very bad, you can go up to 500mg a day for the cat, it's not something that will be toxic if a heavier dose is given. Lysine is cheap, at the grocery store in the vitamin section, it runs something like $4 for 60 pills, for the generic form. AND it works on cold sores for us, too. It's good to have in the medicine cabinet.

Where can I buy colloidal silver or other natural remedies for pink eye (conjunctivitis)?

I am just getting over a sinus infection and lucky me I woke up with pink eye today. Since it's a Sunday, I would like to find something to get it treated today. I don't want to have to wait to see the doctor because I have classes and I don't want to miss them because of the pink eye. I've heard that the use of liquid colloidal silver works wonders for pink eye but I don't know where to find it other than the online stores. And I'm interested in any other remedies people may know about. I live near a wal-mart, GNC, kroger, meijer, walgreens, and cvs. We have a Wild Oats - Whole Foods about 30 minutes away and I might drive there as a last resort.

Thanks!

Many who manufacture colloidal Silver is in reality not true "colloidal" but rather a cheaper version, they are sold under the names of silver protein, and or Ionic silver! It is difficult to distinguish what is true colloidal silver! One sure way is to hold it up to the light and if it has a light golden tent it is most likely true colloidal and if it is clear, most likely it has particle silver traces and not pure colloidal silver at all and it is expensive! Peel an onion and your tear ducts will open and allow tears to flow which is natures way of cleaning your eyes which will keep pink eye and sty's at bay! Gently dab your eyes with a warm damp clean wash cloth and you can get an advanced eyewash at Walgreen's that will help! Pink eye is an infection of the tear ducts and believe it or not people who are more prone to crying will have less problems with getting pink eye,as I have previously stated because of the natural flow of tears! My advise is forget about the colloidal silver and stick to the basics, eye wash, eye ointment, warm damp tea-bags and time! In severe cases anti biotics may have to be used to rid the infection! Best of healing to you! Lord Bless!

Eye Infections: Blepharitis , Stye And Conjunctivitis or Pink Eye

Our eyesight plays an important role in our daily activities. A lot of us cannot imagine how much our lives will change with the loss of our eyesight and would dread the day that were to happen, if ever. Eye infections are ailments caused by viral, bacterial or even some other kinds of microbiological agents. There are a number of different kinds of eye infections present and almost each of them has a different set of causes and treatment options. Some of the infections are more common than others and of all the eye infections in the world; conjunctivitis is probably the most common of them all. Also known as pink eye, this condition is characterized by a noticeable redness of the eye.  This is a very contagious infection – meaning that everyone around an infected person needs to be especially careful. Stye’s are another common eye infection that are characterized by the formation of small hard lumps forming at the base of the eyelash or eyelid. Blepharitis is the inflammation of the eyelids and is accompanied by a significant amount of scratching, burning and irritation. Orbital cellulitis is the inflammation of the tissue surrounding the eye and can grow to a very serious extent that could even result in the complete loss of one’s eyesight if proper and substantial treatment is not provided to the affected area.
