Natural Remedies For Dry Scalp

None of the shampoos or conditioners I have tried which claim to be suitable for sensitive skin seem to work. I wondered if there was a simple herbal remedy.

I 've heard vinegar is good for dry scalp and dandruff.

I am a young African American women who has recently decided to stop relaxing my hair. After washing it, I can oil my scalp and two days later my hair/scalp is dry and itchy. Does anybody know of any good, natural ways to keep dandruff and psoriasis under control?

I'm half black, half asian, and my hair and scalp are really dry and I have dandruff and dry scalp/hair/skin problems. Lately it's been getting really bad, and I want to get this under control!

I'm half-asian and half-white, and I've found the best thing for me is using dilute apple cider vinegar (1 splash vinegar / 1 cup water).

I get my hair wet, pour in the mixture, then let it sit while I shower, and finish with washing it out (just a regular shampoo). After about a week, my hair is dandruff free! This worked especially well on my husband--the dandruff does come back, but it just takes a day or two of the vinegar treatment to get it gone again. Way better than those super stinky (and expensive) chemical shampoos.

A friend of mine is having a very hard time dealing with her dry scalp. She uses head & shoulders shampoo, top brass for dandruff (even though it's a man's product), and hydrocortizon, but it doesn't seem to work for her. Can you give us more tips & advice on how to hydrate the scalp? Either a natural remedy or a product, thanks so much guys!

Try taking some vitamins like E and D they should help IMHO but what do I know so here are some links.

What to do:

* Brush your hair frequently to remove the flakes.
* Massage your scalp to improve circulation.
* Avoid using alkaline based shampoos.
* Try a jojoba oil based shampoo and use it regularly.
* Intersperse the jojoba shampoo with an over the counter dandruff shampoo once a week: look for zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide or coal-tar formulas.
* Try a final rinse of one cup warm water mixed with two to three tablespoons of white vinegar. This will also bring out the highlights in your hair and make it shiny.
* Massage table salt into your dry scalp before shampooing with an acid-based shampoo.
* Try an oil treatment in which you massage olive oil into your hair and scalp, cover your hair with plastic wrap and with two wet towels. Keep the towels on your head for twenty minutes, then remove oil with two washings.
* Supplement your diet with foods rich in Vitamins C and B, which promote a healthy scalp, and healthy hair.

If none of these improve the condition of your scalp, then make an appointment with a dermatologist, who can prescribe a treatment that'll work for you.
