besides wearing a tighter arm band or stretching out your fingers normal, I can't think of any. Some say magnetic bracelets of copper help with blood flow and the pain though, though it's pretty unscientific and probably more psychological than anything.

this is especially bad news for me because I'm an artist, and I have some major projects lined up. The numness in my hand is so bad I have to stop every few minutes to let the feeling come back. Does anyone know of a natural remedy or supplement to help? I hate the thought of surgery.
Soul Doctor, where are you?!
I've got it also. I have noticed if I crack my wrists (grab whole hand and bend down as far as I can and then grab my palm and push back. Keep doing until it cracks) I do that it helps alleviate the pain for a few hours. Make sure to do wrist excercises before painting too (same method, not so forceful). If it gets really bad, I bought some wrist braces at wal-mart for like $8 for the pair. They are flexible enough to still have movement, but they have velcro around the wrists that constrict the blood flow, which for some reason feels heavenly on me. Good luck!

I have carpal tunnel on both my hands and have had for considerable time. I'm at my ends wits about it, I am a remedial therapist and my hands are in constant use. I don't want to undergo surgery as it will put me out for a very long time and they cannot guarantee success.
If any one has any tips on some natural remedies apart form the obvious exercises, which i already do, please pass them on to me, it will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your input and your right, my job is the current culprit, but the original injury was apparantly sustained over 20 years ago in a car accident and it's all neck related, thus why surgery may not help. And No i haven't had cortisone shots, I have refused them. With what i know about cortisone i decided against it. I may just have no choice but to change careers, I am self employed so i'm in a catch 22 situation with who foots the bill. lol. Anyway, your input was very appreciated.
The first step to relieve symptoms is rest and to immediately stop the repetitive behaviors that have led you here. I am assuming that you have received cortisone shots in each wrist? Even if you have, it's a temporary solution. You have carpal tunnel from the repetitive motions from your job, the true solution would be to stop and quit. Since that isn't an option, your only solution is surgery and being careful in your current job in the future. It is highly recommendable, in a perfect world, to change jobs. If you don't take care of this, you won't be able to continue your job anyway because you'll continue to get weakness and pain and won't be able to perform due to muscle waste.
I got carpal tunnel at my job, I was a circuit board repair tech who worked under a scope. Very tight work and very repetitive, thus carpal tunnel. I tried the rest, the shots, wet heat baths, exercises... you name it and nothing worked. It was too late, I was broken. I ended up getting the surgery and it worked for me. I was given medical sick leave in the beginning to let it rest and my work paid for my leave for surgery because it was a work related injury. I retained a lawyer.
I hired the best hand surgeon in Boston who was also a plastic surgeon and asked him to perform Endoscopic surgery (he was very privy as he had performed thousands of them.) I had local anesthesia and watched the surgery on the monitor, very cool. It wasn't very evasive as there were two incisions less than 1/4". I have no scarring and it took 2 weeks to heal with a cast on. Once the cast was removed I had physical therapy and went back to work. (I was also a hand model and artists at the time and was petrified that this part of my career was over, it was not). I have not suffered from any nerve damage or long term effects and am symptom free.
I doubted the surgery at first, but that is ultimately what I had to do. Your job is important, but your health is more so. If you can figure out how to get paid sick leave, I would highly recommend it. And since it is work related... you know what I am going to say. If you can find a doctor that has exceptional knowledge in Endoscopic surgery, the healing is so much faster. You wouldn't be put out of work for a long time. Do not go with someone that wants to perform open surgery, it's antiquated and barbaric. Get a second and third opinion, as the success rate is 95%. I have no idea why you would have been told any different.
Be careful with vitamin B supplements, high levels of vitamin B6 can damage sensory nerves, leading to numbness in the hands and feet as well as difficulty in walking.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
