My 17 year old son has symptoms of anxiety. We know the things that can be done medically, but we're looking first at natural remedies. Does anyone know what aromatherapies work best? Vitamins/minerals/herbs? Music therapy? Other? Thanks!
emigirl6---he's been to both his physician and he is currently in counseling. Thanks for the input!
There are many different counseling methods that incorporate behavior techniques to address stress and anxiety. Medication can be useful in some situations, but tranquilizes should never be a long term “cure” for stress.
Natural cures for stress and anxiety include behavior management techniques, proper diet and exercise, herbal remedies and yoga techniques. These will actually work towards alleviating your stress.

I'm looking for natural remedies for anxiety/panic attacks. Its for a friend, drugs are NOT an option. I stopped by the health food store today, but there were so many options. I want to recommend something effective. I have heard good things about Rescue Remedy, and so bought some of that. Has anyone had good results with this or anything else? She has panic attacks related to severe social anxiety. Also, if anyone knows of a good book or website where I could learn more about panic remedies, that would be much appreciated. Thanks! -Neb
Besides "social drinking" to cure "social anxiety". I have found the only thing that really helps is taking deep breaths and using "awareness" excersises to keep yourself in the present. Also, vanilla as a scent (whether worn as an essential oil on the wrists or a perfume spray), and coconut are very relaxing scents that can help in situations where just a whiff here and there of the scent can help calm the nerves down.
hope this helps :) tell your friend to hang in there and look around for a good CGB (cognitive behavioral therapist) who can help eliminate alot of these issues w/ out drugs or anything else.
I have these crazy panic attacks that come out of nowhere where I feel like I'm going out of my mind...which in turn is even scarier because I think that if I do really go out of my mind I'll be locked up in a mental institution. Is there anything that is better (more mild) that xanax? I don't wanna keep taking the hard stuff and end up getting addicted. More so is there a natural remedy or herbs (mixture of herbs) that can help?
There are herbs - but this is still a chemical dependency.
I suggest you see a counsellor, learn a little meditation/self hypnosis techniques to help with the calming. It works.
I have both of these along with ocd and have been dealing with it all of my life! iv'e been to the doctor for many of years but i refuse to take meds because i tried commiting sucide because of the antidepressants and landed on the heart floor for 11 days i'm looking for all natural ways to deal with this! if you guys would help that would be awesome! thanks
A reputable herbalist should be able to help, acupuncture can be beneficial as well, however I came across a therapy that worked extremely well for my son who was diagnosed with trichotillomania (hair pulling) and anxiety (as a result of an accident he had 6 months prior to the condition developing) when he was 12.
I will give you a link below, this therapy is non invasive and holistic in nature (no med reqd) however you will have to face problems rooted in your past (sometimes they are really minor but the effect on the psyche can be immense) it is free and believe me it does work, after 2 months my son's hair grew back and he has not pulled one strand since ! and his anxiety has strongly diminished.
Please believe me I am not a kook or a tree hugging hippy I am very much a realist and confront problems head on.
Look try it, it won't hurt and there is also a forum on the site where you can consult trained therapists who will point you in the right direction.
Anyway, the link - sorry for rambling, and I hope it helps you as much as it did my son.
