Hi, I have searched and am now totally overwhelmed and confused. Has anyone heard/know of a natural remedy or control for fleas on my cats, and now in my carpet? Oh yeah I am not rich.
Yes! There is an ingredient that is called diatomaceous earth which is used in some natural insecticides.
It works by cutting the shells/skins of the insect. I have used it on carpet, hardwood floors and just about everywhere. It works. It's not immediate, but it works. Plus, when you vacuum, it gets the one in the bad too. Its available at several places on-line, as well as your local garden center I'm sure. Buy local and support your economy if you can.
When it comes to natural flea control for cats, use fresh garlic in a cat's food in order to repel fleas, and also consider sprays on the ...
I've read on the internet about using a lemon & water spray to kill fleas in combination with sprinkling garlic powder on their food. Anyone who has tried these, please let me know the results because Frontline and Advantage have both failed me and I'm tired of putting pesticides on my cats.
spraying your cats with water and vinegar mixed together is supposed to repel fleas.

Most of the "natural" remedies are not safe for cats. Pyrethrins are natural, and perfectly safe for dogs - but can cause seizures and death in cats. The only natural remedy that I am aware of that's safe in cats is an old-fashioned flea comb. It works, but it won't keep the fleas from your house. The vet-prescribed flea treatments are generally regarded as safe, and are surely better than having fleas in your house and tapeworm in your cats (fleas are the usual host for tapeworm).

Flea and tick spray for cats and kittens
Kills and repels fleas
Since my cats are outdoor mainly, and thus exposed to fleas and ticks, this needs to be something that really works! (They also come into our garage and basement--then when they leave, WE get the fleas!!!) I've been using typical flea preventative--Biospot--but I would like to stop using pesticides on my cats.
Go to a healthfood store. Get a big bottle of unscented garlic pills. Mash them into a powder. Also get bricks of brewer's yeast. Mash that into a powder. Mix the two together in equal amounts and store in an airtight container in the dark. It need not be in the refrigerator.
Once each day, mix one/quarter teaspoonful, for each cat, of this powder in each cat's ration of wet cat food. Feed the precious babies.
The brewer's yeast is poisonous to the fleas and ticks. The garlic makes thecat's blood stink,....if you're a flea or a tick. If they sniff before they bite, they don't bite; they leap off in a hurry. If they're really hungry, they don't sniff first, they bite and the brewer's yeast in the cat's blood kills 'em dead.
I've been using this easy and relatively inexpensive remedy for ALL my precious babies for nigh on 35 years.
Since my organization, Kitty Haven Cat Refuge, runs between 35 and 95 cats and kittens at any one time; I do have some experience.
Definately use cedar chips and apple cider vinegar is supposed to be good, too, because fleas can't stand the odor.

naturalliving: kitty and fleas
So I've recently aquired a new kitty that lived outside with it's mumma cat and siblings, but now he's become an inside cat with us. Of course, all being outside cats, all the cats had fleas. I bathed the kitty with flea shampoo before we took it, though it didn't kill all the fleas. I would have bought a flea collar except the only one I could find said it was to be used for cats aged three months and over, and my kitty is still very much a young kitty. I've read a few of the more recent posts I could find, but unfortunately I don't have time to sit here all day and go through everything, as much as I would like. As expected, the whole house now has fleas, but it's definately...
