Most OTC decongestants are not recommended for people with hypertension, so my options are limited. Have tried Coricidin HB, but "knocks me out"! :)
1.Humidity is the key to keeping the cilia working, the mucus flowing, and the sinuses drained.Twice a day, stand in a shower hot enough to fog up the mirror. Or lean over a pan full of steaming water with a towel draped over your head, creating a steam tent. Inhale the vapors as they waft up toward your nostrils.
2.To flush out stale nasal secretions, use a commercial saline product or mixing 1 teaspoon of sea salt with 2 cups of warm water and a pinch of baking soda. Pour it into a shot glass, tilt your head back, close one nostril with your thumb, and sniff the solution with the open nostril. Then blow your nose gently. Repeat on the other side.
3.Drinking extra liquids—both hot and cold—throughout the day, thins out the mucus and keeps it flowing. Sipping hot teas made with herbs such as fenugreek, fennel, anise, or sage may help move mucus even more.
4.Apply a warm washcloth over your eyes and cheekbones and leave it there until you feel the pain subside. It may take only a few minutes.

There is a natural mineral clay called Nevalite and when you put a pinch of it in your palm, add some water, and sniff it up into your nostrils, you get AMAZING results that last all day long. My mother in law discovered this and it WORKS!!! www.goldennevalite.com
I have a cold and cannot take over the counter remedies as i am hypertensive, I can take paracetamol to reduce my temperature, and am taking echinacea and vitamin c supplements, but i just wondered whether there were any natural decongestants around (other than eucalyptus/olbas) that any of you kind folk would know of?
I am worried that it may develop into man flu if i dont find something soon...
Crush and juice fresh ginger to fill a finger full of glass, top with warm water to half the glass... drop a teaspoon of honey in it with a generous squeeze of a juicy lemon... a pinch of cinnamon powder, just a pinch, no more...and a sprig of mint leaves to float on the top. Sip this warm, never cold..around 3 to 4 times a day. Can be addictive:)

I am extremely sensitive to stimulants of all kinds, and so cannot take over the counter decongestants that contain pseudo-ephedra, nor can I take natural remedies that contain ma huang which contains natural ephedra.
When I get a sinus infection or a cold I am absolutely miserable due to the severe congestion.
I've tried nasal irrigation with a neti pot, which only offered very mild relief for a very short period of time. I've also tried this homeopathic nasal spray called Sinus Buster, which uses capsaicin pepper extract and eucalyptus in very dilute amounts. This also offers a small amount of relief for a pretty small amount of time.
Are there any other options out there that have worked for others??
I am in the exact same boat that you are. I'm so sensitive to 99% of everything, and I get chronic sinus infections too. Through trial and error and a ton of research I found that the best natural decongestant for me was Quercitin with Bromelain. When I have an allergy attack or a cold, I take 2 capsules, 4 x a day. And since it tends to go into sinus infections, I use Olive Leaf, which is a natural antibiotic, 2 capsules 4 x a day while I have the symptoms. If I wake up during the night I'll take 2 capsules of each as long as I have severe symptoms. So far, when I do those 2 things, I don't get really sick. As with all alternative medicines, it's really important to be an informed patient and to find out what works best for your particular body. Good health to you!
My boyfriend got sick on Sunday and I was doing fine not getting sick until yesterday when I felt all congested and not so good. Since I got it from him I know what to expect. He had to deal with a soar throat, congestion a mild, short fever, coughing.
He said it wasn't as bad as the other colds he has had but I would love to prevent or lessen me getting worse? Can you suggest any of the following:
Decongestant?
Soar troat relief?
Natural cures?
Home remedies?
Do's and Don't do's?
FOODs?
If possible make it as natural as possible I don't really like to take medications but I will still take suggestions on good meds
Thank you
I have a doctor’s appointment next Wednesday for some other reason but I hope to be rid of the cold by then. I take prenatal vitamins already. I am also drinking green tea.
My boyfriend is at the cough stage so it seems he is almost better.
