To begin with please only serious answers, i don't just want people telling my I need to see my doctor. I know this, I just want to know some natural remedies for IBS.
I am 1000% sure i have IBS. I started getting the symptoms a month before my second child was born, about 7 months ago now. I have been doing research online and have found a few sites with natural remedies and all of them say that Citrucel is one treatment. Has anyone tried this?
IBS is one of those conditions that affects each person a bit differently. Your best bet is to experiment a bit, see what foods trigger it, and which you do well on. Usually, a high fiber diet, with lots of fruits and veggies helps. Some people do well with eliminating wheat and dairy from their diet. Some are helped by yogurt or psyllium. Caffeine is sometimes a trigger, or spicy foods. Try to learn to deal with stress in your life, almost everyone I know says that stress is a huge trigger. Good luck.

I tried everything - have had IBS for 20 years. The only thing that ever worked was changing my diet to the blood type diet. For the last 2 years, I've had almost no symptoms. Its basically healthy eating based on your body/blood type. I just wrote an article about it here:

Also, meditation helps a lot as it can be triggered by stress and anxiety and meditation relieves that quite a bit. Here is a good way to start that too:

Unfortunately IBS is a highly individualized disorder, so it's hard to give a blanket remedy that works for everyone. However, here are some common remedies that work for a lot of sufferers, including me:
*Food diary-If you haven't done so already, keep a food diary for a few weeks until you have a clear idea of which foods bother you and which ones are "safe" for you to eat. I'd say this is the most important step an IBS sufferer can take to finding relief.
*Soluble fibers-There are two kinds of fibers: soluble and insoluble. Soluble fibers can be found in foods such as bananas, oatmeal and rice. Insoluble fibers are the really tough fibers found in raw vegetables. Ideally it's good to include both kinds in your diet, but IBS sufferers should eat more foods with soluble fibers, as these are easier to digest and won't upset sensitive digestive systems. Read "Eating for IBS" (noted below)-the author explains this more fully.
*Peppermint-Almost any form of peppermint, whether in a tea, an oil, a tablet or a mint, helps settle your stomach.
*Other herbs-Also try fennel, chamomile and ginger. These are especially good in teas and are perfect to take after a meal to help with digestion.
*Walking-Sounds too simple, but it really is good for aiding your digestive system. If your stomach won't settle after a meal, instead of waiting the usual 30 min., take a walk immediately. Don't speed-walk, just go at a leisurely pace.
*Yoga-Though not all the poses are recommended for IBS, in general this is a gentle but effective regime for stabilizing your body's internal processes and relieving your stress. Stress does not cause IBS, but it can be a trigger, so anything you can do to prevent or relieve stress also helps your IBS. One of the most helpful things yoga has taught me is how to breathe. So often we forget to take time to breathe, literally, and it's amazing what a few good, deep breaths will do for you.
Hope this helps. Best of luck!
I am suffering from IBS and are sick and tired of being sick and tired. I am currently on daily medications, a strict diet, and I am now exercising daily. The flare-ups are much fewer and far between but it is not totally gone yet. I tried some natural remedies before but they did not work for me. I tried Caltrate tablets, Pepermint softgels, chinese herb tea, fiber supplements, and Aloe Vera Softgels and I am still sick. Is there anything out there that I have not tried that really works?
Have you tried probiotics? I've done a lot of research on IBS because both my mother and brother have it and they have both seen HUGE benefits from taking a good probiotic daily. They have both independently told me that they could easily notice when they missed a few days of the probiotics (like when they ran out or forgot).
It's also common to develop irregularity after taking antibiotics for the same reason, but the probiotics are the beneficial bacteria that lives in your intestinal tract and helps your body absorb the nutrients in your intestinal tract, which helps regularity.
I'd recommend getting a good probiotic with at least 3-5 strains and at least 4-6 billion viable organisms per dose if not more... you may want to try a higher dose at first to replenish everything right away, too. Give it a try for just 1 month and I'm willing to bet you'll notice a huge difference even within the first couple weeks. Oh, and expect loose stools for the first day or two if you've had antibiotics before... it's perfectly normal as your body's way of trying to balance itself out and clears up within a day or so.
Good luck and I hope I helped!
Yes.
Try ginger. Ginger candy works well.
Also try mint. make sure it is the real deal. You can drink it in tea or take Altoids. It works well to relax your digestive tract.
Make sure you are getting probiotics like yogurt. This can also be calming to the digestive tract.

Herbal Remedies for IBS | Treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome Naturally
IBS, also called spastic colon, is a functional disorder of the large intestine characterized by chronic abdominal pain that comes and goes (normally occurs after meals and decreases or goes away after having a bowel movement), bloating, gas, loss of appetite, and change in bowel habits (constipation and diarrhea). Emotional distress will often trigger symptoms.
There is no specific test to diagnose IBS but one should consult with a health care provider to rule out other diseases. IBS can cause great discomfort but it does not harm the large intestines. There is no cure but there are ways to relieve symptoms.
Peppermint
Peppermint has been shown to be an effective herb for IBS by inhibiting gastrointestinal smooth muscle action in animals and humans.[1] It can help relieve pain, gas, cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and stress.
