my daughter is nearly 8 months she has a chesty cough with plegm on her chest the cough is clearing slowly but does anyone know of any natural remedies that i can use

Drink up. Liquids are especially important if you have a fever because dehydration can occur. In addition, fluids can provide needed nutrients when she's too sick to eat. Thin soups are good, as are fruit and vegetable juices. I recommend beet juice and carrot juice, both of which are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Humidify the air. Raising the humidity of her bedroom will help reduce the discomfort of a cough, sore throat, or dry nasal passages. A humidifier or vaporizer may also be helpful if there is chest congestion or nasal stuffiness.

Pamper her nose. If you've been blowing her nose a lot, its probably pretty sore. So lubricate her nostrils frequently to decrease irritation. A product such as K-Y jelly is preferable to petroleum jelly, which dries out quickly.

Get her rubber right away. A back rub may help activate the immune system to fight the cough. And its very comforting.

My son is coughing and has a runny nose, but no fever. doctor prescribed medicine, but was wondering if there is anything natural that could ease the congestion...he can bearly breath through his tiny nose...really sad :(.

you can get saline drops that would help clear his nose. or some eucalpytus oil or menthol in some hot water in his room. that would help aswell. thats what i do at night. sometimes mixed with a bit of lavender oil to help with sleep. cough medicines arent really very effcetive to be honest, unless they contain codein, which i doubt theyd give to a baby that age. im interested to know what medicine he actually gave if thres no fever?. and calpol would not help with congestion, god some ppl hey?

Well i know these few tricks my mother used to do to me when i was sick. Squeeze about three teaspoons lemon juice into a cup. add a teaspoon of honey to it. warm it up and mix it. It should be liquidy(more lemon than honey) you could add some ginseng for flavor. You could also try making your favourite tea and crushing whole raspberries into it. it really helps sooth your throat. good luck with the cough
