Cold Sore Natural Remedies

I have developed not one but TWO cold sores yuck! That Abreva stuff don't help much, I usually just use Carmex but it takes a long time to go away. And they are painful! Any natural remedies or advice would be so appreciated!

Hi, anytime I feel a cold sore coming on (the tingling sensation at the spot the cold sore is going to come up in) I take a qtip dip it in regular over the counter hydrogen peroxide and apply it the place where it is tingling. Usually never comes up. If I get one and neglect to use the peroxide, I still take the q tip dip it in the peroxide, apply it to the cold sore, and it will bubble up. It will turn the cold sore white, so you do not want to do this before you are going somewhere. But after about 5-10 minutes it will go back to normal color. But do that like 3-5 times a day and it will be gone fast. I get them from time to time, especially if i have been out in the sun and heat for a while with out sunblock. And have tried all the over the couter things, but this works the best, and is fast.

Hi- I take 1 Lysine cap every hour until it's gone. Cold sores are from the herpes simplex virus which stays in the body, and erupts into 'cold sores' at times. Make sure not to kiss anyone, or share glasses or eating utensils until it is completely gone.

I've done a lot of experimenting and I've found that certain foods trigger an allergic reaction which triggers the eruptions. I now avoid cashews. I find that if I overdo coffee, black tea, or sugar over a few days, I also break out. I also seem to break out when I get really really frustrated and angry with someone or a situation. Being aware of what triggers your outbreaks really helps with learning how to avoid them.

European depend on lemon balm ointment to treat cold sores, says Varro E. Tyler, Ph.D., professor of pharacgnosy at Purdue University. The leaves and flower tops of this fragrant plant have antibaterial and antiviral properties. according to Dr. Tyler.
You can't ordinarily buy the ointment that European use in the United States, he explains, but you can get similar results by treating cold sores with a wash made from strong lemon blasm tea.
To make the tea, says Dr. tyler, pour 1/2 cup of boiling water over two to three teaspoons of finely cut dried leaves, available in most health food stores.Let the mixture steep for 20 to 30 minutes, he says, then strain the solution so that there's no dried herb left in the tea and let cool. To apply, Dr. Tyler, suggests dipping a clean cotton cloth into the tea nnd dabbing it on the cold sore three or four times daily.

Homeopathy:
Use a damp cotton swab to apply two or three drops of a 10 percent tincture of Calendula to the sore as needed, says Mitchell Fleisher. M.D., a family pratice physician and homeopath in Collean, Virgina.
Calendula is available in many health food stores.

I have a little cold sore on the corner of my mouth and I was looking for something natural to help to speed up the process. I've used Abberva before and it didn't help at all so please don't suggest OTC or drug store medicines. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Toothpaste is a good treatment for external applications (which will take a while to see the results), but you could also take L-Lysine (an Amino Acid) to help fight it internally, too. L-Lysine can help to get rid of it sooner, plus you can take it safely after you can't see the sore anymore to make sure it's gone.
Also, if you get cold sores on a regular basis, taking L-Lysine can actually help prevent them from coming up again. Oh, and stress tends to aggravate cold sores, so reducing stress may help as well. Good luck!
