I have been reading about all kinds of ailments , colon cancer, acne, eczema etc benefiting from Vitamin D
A growing body of scientific evidence suggests that the widespread deficiency of vitamin D among Americans is more harmful than once believed, increasing their risk of fractures, muscle weakness, and even cancer as they age. In response, two key scientific panels are considering how to close the nutrition gap without compromising another important health campaign: the fight against skin cancer.
More than 40 percent of American adults have low blood levels of vitamin D, which people can get from foods such as milk and salmon as well as nutritional supplements. During non winter months, however, people can also get vitamin D from standing in the sun for a few minutes several times a week. That amount of exposure may seem trivial, but many dermatologists worry that any sun exposure may increase the risk of skin cancer and, more significantly, that encouraging some sun exposure will lead some people to overdo it.
Until recently, public health officials advised people to avoid sun exposure altogether and regarded vitamin D deficiency as far less important, believing that the danger of low vitamin D levels was mainly an increased risk of fractures among the elderly and a rare disease called rickets among children. But recent research has shown that older people with adequate vitamin D levels have better muscle control, lower blood pressure, and fewer ills such as multiple sclerosis and arthritis, compared with people with lower vitamin levels.

I heard on the news the other night that Vitamin D with Calcium may help prevent colon cancer and also maybe breast cancer. Both types of cancer run in my family.
I take a multivitamin every morning. The multivitamin has 1000 I.U. of Vitamin D and 250 mg of calcium in the vitamin. I've also started taking Caltrate (which is a Vitamin D & Calcium supplement). It has 400 IU or Vitamin D and 600 mg of Calcium. My question is does it hurt to take a Vitamin D + Calcium supplement when I'm already taking a multivitamin that has that already in there?
No it won't hurt at all. The RDA is much too low-- that's the minimum requirement. More, within reason, won't hurt. If you're concerned you could get a vitamin D test (blood) but it's a bit pricet

I turn 20 next month and I'm a male. I eat a lot of fast food daily and not a lot of vegetables. But I've always had a good metabolism - I'm skinny and strong; I'm active (I box and run). But I've had what I believed to be multiple hemorrhoids for a couple of years that just haven't go away. But now I'm not sure if that's what they actually are, (they don't hurt anymore). I never had a Dr. look at them. I think I might have colon cancer. What are the odds?
My symptoms include:
-blood in stool (for the last 4 days)
-weak stomach (been like that for years, I have social anxiety and anxiety attacks have always been hard on my stomach)
-constipation (I've had a non-severe case of this for years)
-diarrhea (I've gotten this a lot over the last couple of years)
-I usually have to go #2 at least 3 times a day, or 5 minutes after I eat.
-Chronic fatigue, I get a lot of symptoms from iron deficiency anemia, and I think I might be anemic. So I've been taking woman's vitamins (high in iron) but I'm still tired all day (not as much though)
I know I need to get these serious symptoms checked out by a dr., but I need other opinions as well. I am young, and if I died a few years down the road from colon cancer I'd be happy with my life. I have no family history of cancer. The only reason why I still haven't made an apt. is because I need a new military I.D. for my insurance but my dad's too lazy to get me one. (He lives in a different state, and we're not too close my parents divorced when I was like 11, and he doesn't know about this)
**Edit: By constipation I mean that I go frequently, but it takes me awhile to go sometimes
How much water do you drink a day ? 1-2 litres can make a big difference to your bowel motions.
Also, chronic tiredness and diarrhea sound very similar to a food allergy, namely wheat./ gluten. Then again you may have a benign ulcer. Either way, I would go and get it checked out because if you leave food allergies that affect your bowel/ stomach area, you can end up with cancer because it weakens the stomach wall and causes inflammation.People who are gluten in-tolerant are more at risk of getting cancer, so I was told by a specialist, years ago.
My son was gluten in-tolerant and he had tescular cancer at age 24.
He was misdiagnosed twice before being told he had cancer. But he survived after a 10 hour operation to remove all his lymph nodes.
So don't imagine what you might have. If you had cancer ,you would know it by now.The pain would have been felt, somewhere.. Call a doctor and get a referral to an allergy specialist, and get yourself sorted out so that you can lead a healthy life.Trying to diagnose yourself leads nowhere cause you just run around in circles, getting frustrated because nothing better is on the horizon! But help is at hand, and try drinking more water. Just plain unsweetened water.

I recently read that a person should take 1000 IU of a Vitamin D supplement daily to derive the benefits promised, i.e., prevention of colon cancer, prostrate cancer, MS, etc. Just wondering if sunlight is a more effective means of getting this vitamin as opposed to the supplement?
In most cases you should be able to get enough Vitamin D from exposure to the sun but a supplement may be required if you are not getting enough sun.
400 IU a day should be enough or even less. !,0000 IU a day seems unnecessarily high.
The weekly injection of just 100 billionths of a gram of a harmless glyco-protein (a naturally-produced molecule with a sugar component and a protein component) activates the human immune system and cures cancer for good, according to human studies among breast cancer and colon cancer patients, producing complete remissions lasting 4 and 7 years respectively. This glyco-protein cure is totally without side effects but currently goes unused by cancer doctors. Normal Gc protein (also called vitamin D binding protein) , an abundant glyco-protein found in human blood serum, becomes the molecular switch to activate macrophages when it is converted to its active form, called Gc macrophage activating factor (Gc-MAF). Gc protein is normally activated by conversion to Gc-MAF with the help of the B and T cells (bone marrow-made and thymus gland-made white blood cells).

If you are talking about Glyconutrients than no scientific evidence exists that they have had any type of anti tumor affect on cancer in human beings.

Dangers of Vitamin D Deficiency | Healthy and Green Living
It is estimated that anywhere from 30 to 100 percent of Americans, depending upon their age and community living environments, are deficient in Vitamin D. More than half of all American children are vitamin deficient. Supposedly almost 75 percent of pregnant women are vitamin D deficient, predisposing their unborn children to all sorts of problems. Worldwide, it is estimated that the epidemic of vitamin D deficiency affects one billion people. In my practice over 80 percent of patients whose vitamin D levels I check are deficient.
No one is exactly sure why this is happening apart from the fact that we spend too much time indoors, and when we go out into the sun, we lather sunscreen on ourselves. I think it must be more than that. But whatever the reason, the reality is we have a major epidemic on our hands.
