am not sure about erbitux, but i am on avastin and iriticane, for metatastic colon cancer, ( i had colon surgery in 2004, this year they found spots in my lymph nodes ), i had a catscan on friday and will see dr. tomorrow, wed, 2/28/07 to find results of using that combo of drugs. I am hoping for some, if not major reduction of the spots..i have had 4 doses of chemotherapy.
Well, if someone survives that long, idk how you would survive with undiagnosed and treated cancer for years but I was just wondering this since I know that cancer or tumors just keep getting worse as time goes by and as weeks and months pass its gets into more advanced stages.
They would likely get worse, and the person would likely get new symptoms. Cancer, if left untreated can grow in size as well as spread distantly.
Fortunately, there is screening available for colon cancer, so if you have a family history, it is important to get screened!
im paranoid and theres dark areas in my stool. theyre usually in the middle of it so that marks out hemroids. what do you think? also plz answer the topic question
also im in my early 20s, i have nothing to eat but fast food every day. and usually i go once a week to the bathroom if that is any help of anything. also im 135lbs
The only way to be tested for colon cancer, if it is not very advanced, is by colonoscopy. However, given your age and lack of symptoms, this will not likely happen. Change your eating habits you’ll feel better.
Is this possible? What should be the next course of action after that? FOLFIRI? Is it even possible that both A) the Avastin doesn't work on this particular patient and B) the 5-FU doesn't work either?
***Sorry, I meant to say 4 rounds of treatment, not 4 months. So, it's really 2 months, and the cancer progressed on FOLFOX+Avastin.
Sweetie, some chemo treatments just don't work and the oncologist has to tweak the treatment. For my Stage III Colon Cancer, I was on FOLFOX + Oxyplatinan. It was not friendly to me and I was only able to last three months on it, or six rounds, then ended up taking Xeloda. It was enough to "so far" (knock on wood) stop the cancer. So, in my situation, my chemo had to be tweaked.
Don't pay attention to stats or idiots who quote stats. Each person is different in how they react to cancer and to cancer treatments. There are thousands of Stage III and Stage IV Survivors who have lived past five years out there so just ignore them.
The next course of treatment could be anything prescribed by the oncologist--just flow with it and if you question it, get a second opinion and get your mind in the right place to be positive and to mentally combat it. Just remember it isn't unusual to modify or change chemo treatments because they are not responsive to a certain situation.
I wish you the best.
New Old Drug Fights Colon Cancer | WeeksMD
— A new Tel Aviv University drug, based on an older generation antibiotic, may provide doctors with an effective and innovative method of treating colon cancer in both its incipient and full-blown stages — and minimize the need for painful, uncomfortable colonoscopies and surgical polyp removal.
Dr. Rina Rosin-Arbesfeld of TAU’s Sackler School of Medicine has shown in preclinical studies that a common antibiotic can suppress the growth of colon cancer polyps in mice. Her aim is to reformulate the drug for use as a preventative therapy — or, in stronger doses, in combination with chemotherapy and radiation to fight existing cancers until they’re gone. The current formulation reduced the size of the polyps in about 80% of the mice she studied, and on average the animals lived 30% longer than those who were not given the antibiotic.
