Colon cancer symptoms and information

what are the signs or symptoms of colon cancer if any?

thanks

Colon cancer .........
it is mostly a disease of old age...
most of them are asymptomatic until they reach very advance stage.
it is a real challenge for doctors to diagnose colon cancer early because if they are detected at their early stage the chances of cure are more....
but you can suspect colon cancer if.....
1.An old man/woman (50+yrs) with ANEMIA ,with out any other obvious reasons like malnutrition, worminfestation etc.

You have more chance of getting colorectal carcinoma if , 1.any of you family members have the same disease,
2. you or family members have colonic polyposis syndrome(FAPC)

Normal presenting complaints are.
1.constipation/diarrhoea (chronic)with out any obvious reasons.....
2.blood in stools/black coloured tarry stools/ mixed with mucous..
3.chronic lower abdominal pain,often mild.
4.unintentional weight loss.
5.feeling of mass in lower abdomen.
6.vomitting (contain digested food).this symptom is rare.
***since the above mentioned symptoms can indicate a variety of diseases(like chrons dis./ulcerative colitis etc) proper diagnosis cal be made only after doing a colonoscopy .
**also keep in mind that colon cancer is very rare in young age.
thank you

What could be the signs of pancreatic cancer if there are no symptoms?

As we know, this killer disease has no symptoms and only diagnose when it's too late. What could be done to avoid this or what to do to find out if you are not getting this? Does it start by having stomach aches or similar to indigestion or colon cancer symptoms?

Pancreatic cancer, primarily ductal adenocarcinoma, accounts for an estimated 37,000 cases and 33,000 deaths in the US annually. Symptoms include weight loss, abdominal pain, and jaundice. Diagnosis is by CT. Treatment is surgical resection and adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Prognosis is poor because disease is often advanced at the time of diagnosis. (Merck)
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of death from cancer in the United States. The disease is slightly more common in men than in women, and risk increases with age.
The cause is unknown, but it is more common in smokers and in obese individuals. Almost a third of cases of pancreatic cancer are due to cigarette smoking. There is controversy as to whether type 2 diabetes is a risk factor for pancreatic cancer. A small number of cases are known to be related to syndromes that are passed down through families.

Prevention
Although there's no proven way to prevent pancreatic cancer, you can take steps to reduce your risk, including:
* Quit smoking. If you smoke, quit. Talk to your doctor about ways to help you quit, including support groups, medications and nicotine replacement therapy. If you don't smoke, don't start.
* Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight increases your risk of pancreatic cancer. If you need to lose weight, aim for a slow, steady weight loss — 1 or 2 pounds (0.5 or 1 kilogram) a week. Combine daily exercise with a plant-focused diet with smaller portions to help you lose weight.
* Exercise regularly. Aim for 30 minutes of exercise on most days. If you're not used to exercising, start out slowly and work up to your goal.
* Eat a healthy diet. A diet full of colorful fruits and vegetables and whole grains is good for you, and may help reduce your risk of cancer.

Colon cancer - pre-diagnosis signs/symptoms?

My brother has it - what should I be on the lookout for?

Colon cancer can very difficult to detect. The most common symptom is rectal bleeding, or blood detected on a stool test. However, with you family history your best bet is to get a screening colonoscopy done at the age of 50 or 5 - 10 years before your brother's age when he was diagnosed. The problem with colon cancer is other doesn't cause much problems until it is quite advanced.

4 Possible symptoms of colon cancer

Colon cancer (also known as colon cancer or colorectal cancer) is a cancer that affects the last part of the digestive tract (usually the colon or rectum). He is responsible for more than 16,000 deaths in the UK each year and is one of the most dangerous types of cancer around. There are a number of symptoms that could indicate you have cancer of the colon. In this article I will discuss these signs and symptoms and we hope you give the information to identify the disease, and sooner rather than later.

Unlike other conditions where the symptoms are often clear and easy to identify the symptoms of colon cancer are generally vague and harder to find. As cancer is more advanced and the tumor grows, symptoms become more noticeable. However, now it is often more difficult to effectively treat cancer. It is therefore essential for you to be alert for signs of bowel cancer at any time. In doing so, you can greatly improve your chances to identify early colorectal cancer and the treatment. There are many symptoms associated with this type of cancer, but less than limiting myself to four of the most common.
