Last week (Jan 2nd) I felt a terrible pain in my lower left side. It wrapped around my entire side, almost from the center of my back to my belly button. I went to the ER when the pain was so bad that I could hardly sit or lay down...even the once comfortable standing position was getting difficult. They did a cat scan and diagnosed Colitis. They said that my colon was inflamed in the area that I was feeling pain.
I had no other symptoms of colitis. I was going to the bathroom fine - nothing was irregular or out of the ordanary. I had no blood or mucus, I had no stomach ach. Just the pain.
They prescribed Flagyl and Cipro to take.
After a few days of the anti-biotics the pain went away, but suddenly I was so nausious and could not stop vomiting! This happened over the weekend. I have a doctors appt today. I could not finish taking the last day of my anti-biotics b/c I could not keep foods/fluids down. I will discuss that with the doctor today.
My stomach finally feels okay, I no longer feel naushous and that pain in my side is pretty much non existant. But there is another pain now when I take a deep breath, on the other side...the right side, lower than my belly butten. Almost around where my overies are.
Any suggestions? I dont want to be mis-diagnosed with colitis if I have something different I want it to be diagnosed and fixed.
I'm 21 years old and I just want to be healthy.
Just, go back to your doctor and tell him what happened then if you are not satisfied have a referral from doctor to another Specialist. Just ask the doctor! Take care!

Largest prospective controlled trial in UC meets primary endpoint of non-inferiority for maintaining remission in UC patients
TORONTO, October 28, 2009 – Results from the largest prospective controlled ulcerative colitis (UC) trial conducted to date, called the QD dosing investigation for efficacy IN UC maintenance (QDIEM), found that once-daily dosing of Asacol® (mesalamine) delayed-release 400 mg tablets at 1.6-2.4 g/day was comparable to twice-daily dosing for the maintenance of remission in patients with UC. The study, which met its primary endpoint of non-inferiority, found that 90.5 per cent of patients taking Asacol once-daily remained in remission at six months compared to 91.8 per cent of patients taking Asacol twice-daily. These findings were announced at the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Annual Scientific Meeting in San Diego, California.
