About Diverticulosis-Pouches In The Colon
Diverticulosis is a condition where small pouch-like growths occur in the colon or large intestine. A single pouch is called a diverticulum and multiple pouches become diverticula. They are generally more commonly found in the lower portion of the large intestine, the sigmoid colon. Generally, it is harmless and in some cases can even persist for a lifetime without any adverse effects. Diverticulitis occurs when they get infected or inflamed, which usually happens to about 10 to 25% of people with diverticulosis. Some common symptoms are fever, nausea, diarrhea and/or constipation and abdominal pain which is often very severe and usually felt in the lower left of the abdomen. Vomiting is also possible.
