Diet After Colon Surgery

I had a colon resection via open abdominal surgery. They had to remove the part of my colon that is non functioning and blocked. I am 26 and just 10 lbs. over my ideal weight. When can I go back to my weight loss diet without impeding my recovery.

My friend cannot have dairy products but was told by the dr to eat yogart which she cannot tolerate. She was told she needs the bacteria in her body to get the colon working correctly. What other foods could she be eating?

She should talk to the Dr. to tell him/her that yogurt is out, now what should she eat?

My hubby just had colon surgery and Doc says he has to eat a low fiber diet for 2 weeks. I know that raw fruits and vegies are a no-no. Only canned and cooked. What kind of meats, cereals, breads, etc can he eat? Can he have eggbeaters? He has high cholesterol, and doesn't like alot of sugar. He needs variety. I'm also concerned that he gets proper nutrition until he can go back to his regular high fiber diet. Any suggestions, ideas, or sites where I can get recipes would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks.

take a look at the atkins diet its low fibre , but you may need to adjust it a little from the chloesterol point of view.

You don't want a colostemy, & can't get enough nutrients & calories from Ensure. (laxatives don't work- documented).Enemas partially work,sometimes.Colon cleansing
won't work due to no contraction/spams of colon.

I add Benefiber to EVERYTHING!!! Water, Spaghetti Sauce, cereal, anything I eat or drink! It has completely changed my 'problem'. I went 23 days without having a movement, I was taking Psyllium husks twice a day (do NOT even start these!) and still not moving! The docs were amazed that I hadn't BUSTED.
They tried the MiraLax, nada, then I was doing wonderful enemas All the time, JOY!! Perfect if you want to live in a restroom! My colon was shot! I now eat Kashi 'Go Lean' with that DanActive or Activea Strawberry Yogurt and add Benefiber to everything. Between the GOOD ENZYMES in the yogurt and all the natural fiber, and lots of prayer, my colon is GREAT now. But, it was looking like surgery was right around the corner. Trust me on the fact that I know exactly what you mean about the 'no contractions' part. It wouldn't move if you paid it. It just sat there, stretching out my colon, for days. I had to use the enemas while I built my system back up. The Kashi Go Lean has 10 grams of protein and 13 grams of fiber per cup just by itself! It is a wonderful whole food. Sorry to ramble!! and that each year she goes in and has a piece of the colon removed, she is not on any medication only a diet. She was suppose to have the surgery in Dec of 08 but said that things are fine and she is going to skip this year and just treat it with a diet.

Colin cancer is very agressive if untreated.
sometimes some bowel is removed to rid it of cancer. Then the patient has a colostomy bag.

If all cancer has been removed, the person can lead a normal life with the bag.
If there is still cancer present, it will move throughout the rest of the body. Lymph nodes, lungs, liver. once the cancer has metasticised (moved away from the bowel), life expectancy is 1-2 years.
Tell her to stop playing games.
