I'm looking for a doctor to perform a colon and prostate check for my dad--Is there a specialist I need seek?

Do I look up a specialist for these exams or do I go to a family doctor? Please help. Thank you for your time.

You should go to your family doctor to get the names of someone who can help you. A urologist will check the prostate or the family doctor can do it. A colon exam is done by a gastrologist. But check with your family doctor

Is it possible to have colon cancer so young?

My husband has every symptom listed of colon cancer except for weight loss, but he is only 31 years old. This just can't be right... I made him get checked out today and now we are just waiting for a specialist to to look at his colon next week.

Colon cancer can occur at any age, but the symptoms are far more commonly displayed by lesser illnesses. Colonic cancers are more prevalent in older patients, but there has been an increase in the number of younger patients who follow a western style diet high in processed foods.

"Common illnesses are common" is one of the first things quoted to medical students, and there are many common ailments which singly or in combination can cause all of the symptoms of colonic cancer. Accurate diagnosis involves taking tissue samples for microscopic examination and the process in which this is done can be a bit uncomfortable but is not painful.

The internet and self-diagnosis can in many ways be more worrying than the illness itself. Stop assuming it's cancer and let the expert make a diagnosis. Even if your worst fears are realised, then early detection and modern treatment ensure a high survival rate; treatments have dramatically improved even in the three years that I've been interested in oncology.

How can I direct a family member to a specialist who will actually help him?

My dad has cancer and the doctors around here seem so concerned about the tumors in his bladder. He had surgery to remove them. Anyways, he has a lot of trouble with his colon and he takes quite a few laxatives to relieve the pain. I'm terribly worried about him since obviously he is my dad but also because he is in pain and i'm concerned that cancer may be spreading. The doctors around here seem to only want to put money in their pocket rather then doing thier job. I need direction as to how I can help him. He's seen a few specialists, even a specialist for internal medicine but they don't seem worried about his colon, which is what is causing him so much pain. He wants them to either fix it or remove but they seem to not do either. Help please

He needs to see someone who specializes in diseases of the digestive system.

What can thickening of the colon mean?

My husband has been checked for Gull Bladder disease, diverticuliits and it isn't cancer. We have been through CT scans, ultrasounds and stool sample testing. What could it be? I am worried sick, and of course he can't get into the GI specialist until December.
He is only 32 and otherwise healthy.

it could be a number of things that they are trying to test for. Some of them might include: IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Colitis, Crohn's Disease, Infammatory Bowel Disease, Some kind of inflammation caused by a parasite. I hope they find out soon. The list is long on things that can cause thickening in the colon.
