And how does one get screened for Intestinal cancer?

Colon cancer runs in my family and I have a colonoscopy every year. But I found out that a close relative has Intestinal cancer.

As other peole pointed out, "colon" cancer is a cancer specific of the large intestin, whereas "intestinal" cancer could affect any part of the intestine (including the small intestine, i.e. duodenum, ileum and jujenum).

If colon cancer runs in your family, you are likely to have FAP, or Familial adenomatous polyposis, an inherited colorectal cancer syndrome. People with the classic type of familial adenomatous polyposis may begin to develop multiple noncancerous (benign) polyps (growths) in the colon as early as their teenage years.
This cancer usually develops in the lower part of the digestive system, including the large intestine (colon) and rectum. However, the FAP syndrome could present a risk factor for the cancer of the small intestine (what your relative might have), therefore this person could also carry the genetic mutation that confers cancer predisposition (the APC gene, in the case of FAP).

I know this sounds a bit strange, but hear me out...
A few days ago I used a Mystic Eye (something like an oujii board) and I asked how I would die. It said of "Cancer Colon" and in my 70's.
I'm a bit of a hypochondriac and this got me thinking. Since then I have had stomach pains (not from being worried) most of the time during the past 3 days. Today I had a pain in the lower part of my chest/upper part of my stomach that later moved to around my right kidney.
My body is achey which it has been for the past few months (the doctor said it was from over-using my muscles from playing bass) today it's been a bit worse but I've been walking around town all day.
The only people in my family to have Cancer are my aunt on my mother's side who had ovarian cancer and my grandma on my father's side who had lung cancer (and smoked for many years.) I'm 15 years old.
What are the odds of me getting Colon Cancer?
I also have shortness of breath which I've had on and off since my muscles/joints started hurting in the beginning of the summer.
I'm a white male who doesn't smoke, drink or do any drugs. I don't eat much meat other than Mcdonalds hamburgers, and occasionally hamburgers off the grill at home.

Colon cancer is asymptomatic until the very late stages. It is not a common cancer for a 15 year old at all. Certain age groups tend to have different types of cancer, not always, but enough to think that age is a factor when determining the types of cancer you can get. Colon cancer is bascially a disease of older people, you hear alot about it because there is educational material teaching the public about the disease (just like smoking and breast cancer receive a great deal of media). This is all good for older people who need this information, but it does little good for people your age.

The types of cancer that teenagers commonly get are often related to growing (growth spurts) and hormones thus you should be looking out for any unusual lumps or bumps located anywhere on the body. Be especially suspicious of any bump that seems to be growing. The types of cancer common to adolescents are:

1. Leukemia - cancer of the blood
2. Osteosarcoma - a type of bone cancer
3. Ewing's sarcoma - a type of bone cancer
4. Hodgkin's disease - lymphatic system (lymph nodes, thymus, spleen, adenoids, tonsils, and bone marrow)
5. non-Hodgkin's lymphoma -lymphatic system (lymph nodes, thymus, spleen, adenoids, tonsils, and bone marrow)
6. Germ cell cancers - Testicular cancer
7. Soft tissue sarcoma - cancer of connective tissue or muscles, example is Rhabdomyosarcoma
8. Brain tumors - not generally common in teens but two forms to watch for include Astrocytomas (from cells in the brain called astrocytes) and Ependymomas (begin in the lining of brain ventricles).
9. Melanoma - skin cancer
10. Thyroid cancer

It is possible to have other types of very rare cancer as a teen too, but the above diseases are the most common and the ones that all teens should become aware of. Each age group should become familiar with the types of cancer common for their age . . it narrows the field of over 200 different kinds of cancer down considerably.

my boyfriend has 4th stage colon cancer. They removed some of the colon. they now say both lobes of his liver have cancer spots and they are concerned about a spot on his lung.

As colon cancer progresses from Stage 0 to Stage IV, the cancer cells grow through the layers of the colon wall and spread to lymph nodes and other organs.

Stage 0 (Carcinoma in Situ)
In stage 0, abnormal cells are found in the innermost lining of the colon. These abnormal cells may become cancer and spread into nearby normal tissue. Stage 0 is also called carcinoma in situ.
Stage I
In stage I, cancer has formed and spread beyond the innermost tissue layer of the colon wall to the middle layers. Stage I colon cancer is sometimes called Dukes A colon cancer.
Stage II
Stage II colon cancer is divided into stage IIA and stage IIB.
Stage IIA: Cancer has spread beyond the middle tissue layers of the colon wall or has spread to nearby tissues around the colon or rectum.
Stage IIB: Cancer has spread beyond the colon wall into nearby organs and/or through the peritoneum.
Stage II colon cancer is sometimes called Dukes B colon cancer.

Stage III
Stage III colon cancer is divided into stage IIIA, stage IIIB, and stage IIIC.

Stage IIIA: Cancer has spread from the innermost tissue layer of the colon wall to the middle layers and has spread to as many as 3 lymph nodes.
Stage IIIB: Cancer has spread to as many as 3 nearby lymph nodes and has spread:
beyond the middle tissue layers of the colon wall; or to nearby tissues around the colon or rectum; or
beyond the colon wall into nearby organs and/or through the peritoneum.
Stage IIIC: Cancer has spread to 4 or more nearby lymph nodes and has spread:
to or beyond the middle tissue layers of the colon wall; or to nearby tissues around the colon or rectum; or to nearby organs and/or through the peritoneum.
Stage III colon cancer is sometimes called Dukes C colon cancer.

Stage IV
In stage IV, cancer may have spread to nearby lymph nodes and has spread to other parts of the body, such as the liver or lungs. Stage IV colon cancer is sometimes called Dukes D colon cancer.

My mother's Oncologist which also specializes in alternative medicine recommends
-lots of vegetables
-low fat, no sugar, low salt
-fish and chicken O.K. - no red meat
-Omega 3 rich food or additives
-He also recommend some supplements, such as medicinal mushrooms and herbs, IP6-Inositol, Curcumin

My grandma just found out she has stage 4 colon cancer. Have you or anyone you know had stage 4 colon cancer and know the survival rates?

Other than the cancer she is failry healthy.

5 year survival is not 50%, closer to 10% or less. Average survival is about 2 years, meaning half live longer. This assumes patients go through the usual drugs of 5FU, oxaliplatin, irinotecan, avastin, and erbitux. While the treatment can be tough, others tolerate amazingly well and preserve a very good quality of life. Treatments are definitely worth trying at least. I have many older patients with metastatic colorectal cancer- they frequently do very well with treatment.
